Department of Classroom Education, affiliated with Dokuz Eylül University Buca Faculty of Education, was opened as a two-year School of Education in the 1987-1988 academic year, and continued education as a four-year undergraduate program in Classroom Teaching in the 1992-1993 academic year. Starting from the 2006-2007 academic year, new curricula began to be implemented during the restructuring process. A formal education program has been implemented in our department since its establishment. In addition to its 4-year undergraduate education, it has been providing postgraduate services under the Institute of Educational Sciences since the 1999-2000 academic year. The language of instruction in undergraduate and graduate Classroom Education programs is Turkish.
The Department of Classroom Education, one of the two departments in the Department of Basic Education, trains classroom teachers for private and public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education with a 4-year undergraduate education. Our graduates, who are responsible for teaching all primary education courses from the 1st grade to the 4th grade, take general culture, field teaching and pedagogical formation courses during their university education. The aim of the education provided in the department is to train teachers who are committed to Ataturk’s principles and revolutions, who can keep up with the developing technology and society within the framework of a scientific, contemporary, democratic and secular understanding, and who are researching and questioning. Since 2010, the BOLOGNA Process (European Higher Education Area harmonization studies) has started, which allows citizens of countries within the European Higher Education Area to easily move around Europe in order to receive higher education or work.
A total of 266 students are studying in our faculty, Department of Classroom Teaching, 2 of which are in formal education. It is also possible to continue postgraduate and doctorate studies in the field of Classroom Teacher Education within the Institute of Educational Sciences. 1 Professor, 5 Associate Professors, 2 Doctoral Lecturers and 1 Research Assistant work in the department.
