Program History (Establishment Date and Overall Structure of the Program)
The Division of Turkish Language Teacher Education at Dokuz Eylul University was established in 1992 with the goal of training Turkish language teachers. Our division which started to teach in 1992-1993 academic year has been implementing formal education curriculum from the establishment to date. It has an undergraduate education that is four-year in progress as well as a masters and PhD degree programs are in progress at the Institute of Educational Sciences. The language of instruction in all undergraduate and graduate programs of Turkish Language Teacher Education is Turkish. The education program of our division targets to train Turkish teachers with sufficient capacity and talent to train the future generations at the second stage of primary education in accordance with the needs and requirements of both our country and our era. In addition to reinforcing the occupational knowledge and experiences of students, our division also attaches importance to directing them to sport, art, communication and culture activities supporting their personal development and improving their creativity and social relations.
Program Profile (Purpose of the Program, Structure of the Program, Field of Specialization, Department Facilities)
The Division of Turkish Language Teacher Education, with its four-year undergraduate curriculum based on contemporary teacher training approaches, aims to educate qualified teachers who are aware of contemporary assessment and evaluation approaches, enable to design learning environments by means of instructional technologies and use various special teaching methods and techniques in their teaching, keep up with new developments and innovations in their field. Within the frame of this purpose, there are lessons, which aimed at career development of students as well as field information and general knowledge of them, in the curriculum of that program. Since 2010, BOLOGNA Process (European Higher Education Area alignment) has been started for the citizens of the countries within the European Higher Education Area, to provide easy travelling for higher education and working. Through bilateral agreements with high-quality institutions of international reputation, the Program is aiming to increase the knowledge and experience, by supporting the exchange of students and academics. As of 2012, the Program has bilateral agreements for ERASMUS Students and Scholars Exchange Program, and for FARABİ program. The Division of Turkish Language Teacher Education is situated in the building of Social Sciences and comprised of 5 classrooms and 8 offices for academics. All classrooms are equipped with multimedia aids. Besides, in the faculty there is a central library for students to utilize.
Program Outcomes
- To have an academic knowledge of theoretical and applied to be able to comprehend Turkish education in the current debates in the field, developments and innovations in the text books and practice tools- electrical devices.
- Having satisfactory level of knowledge and competence which through graduates can improve their students’ basic language skills, ensuring accurate language use and being a model for their students as a language user.
- Obtaining sufficient academic hardware about Turkish language structure, wealth and historical development.
- Graduates develop of the idea of using Turkish and brining to be component of Turkish thinking skills in their environment.
- To understand with texts the Turkish and world literature through the historical process and using literature knowledge in professional life.
- Knowing its place among the world languages of Turkish, can identify and be qualified to teach Turkish.
- Having at least one foreign language skills to follow the developments in the international area and to contact with people of different nations.
- Have sufficient knowledge about the laws and regulations of citizenship and the teaching profession.
- Different teaching methods and techniques in using information technology to prepare a suitable environment in order to deliver a rich learning environment.
- Thinking critically; having skills which communication, problem solving and reasoning; develop positive attitudes toward lifelong learning.
- Class managing, guidance, being qualified to measurement and evaluation.
- To communicate effectively in using Turkish language as a communication tool with students and colleagues in social environment.
- By taking responsibility of evaluation for itself and its surrounding in profession life which individual and cluster studies.
Course Structure and Credits
Academic Plan consists of compulsory and elective courses.
Graduation Requirements
Student must successfully complete all of the courses in the four-year program, in order to graduate. This degree is given to students who pass all courses in the curriculum, successfully complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and obtain an overall grade point average of at least 2.00/4.00. Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Access to Regulated Profession
This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession in the public or private sector.
Admission and Registration Requirements
High School Diploma, Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
