French Language Teaching Department was founded in 1982. The Department carrying on its activities within Foreign Language Teaching Division since 1983 1984 academic year has been putting into practice the formal education curriculum since its foundation up to date. Apart from the 4-year undergraduate pre-service teacher training (or the bachelor’s degree), the Department also provides, under the auspices of Educational Sciences Institute, with the master’s and doctoral degrees for students. The language of study is French and Turkish for all undergraduate and graduate French teaching programs. All programs cover topics related to language, culture, literature, and especially foreign language teaching areas. The aim of French Language Teaching Department is to impart the required knowledge and skills to students in various subjects such as teaching of French, language acquisition, language-culture interaction, teaching of literature, language skills, material design and adaptation for the teaching of language skills to different student and age levels, curriculum conception based on student needs and expectancies, analyzing French coursebooks, computer-aided language teaching, etc.
