Second Cycle Programmes (Master’s Degree)

General Description

History

The department of Chemistry Education has offered Master of Science Degree since 2002.

Qualification Awarded

Chemistry Teacher Education, Master’s Degree

Level of Qualification

Second Cycle (Master’s Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

For application to master’s programmes;

-To have a Bachelor’s Degree or to be in the last year / semester of undergraduate education,

-To have at least 55 points from the score type of the programme applied for from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) conducted by OSYM,

Interview Grade; It will consist of 60% of the written evaluation score and 40% of the oral evaluation score.

Interview Grade = 60% Written Evaluation Score + 40% Oral Evaluation Score

Candidates with an Interview Score of 65 and above are considered successful. For these candidates, the Evaluation Score consisting of ALES Score, Graduation Grade and Interview Grade will be calculated.

Evaluation Score = 50% ALES + 25% Graduation Grade + 25% Interview Grade

Candidates are placed in the programmes they apply for by ranking them with their Evaluation Scores. As a result of the ranking, starting from the highest score, as many candidates as the quota are entitled to enroll in the programme they have applied for (taking into account their priority preference). The same number of reserve candidates are announced. Candidates who have the right to enrol must register between the specified dates. For the vacant quotas, reserve candidates are given the right to register.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Successful students who have completed at least one semester in the graduate program of another institute within the university or another higher education institution may apply for a transfer in the announced dates if the quota is determined by the Board of Directors. The conditions for admission of the transfer are determined by the institute board.

Exemption requests of students for the courses taken at graduate program of another department/university with a successful grade are evaluated by the Administrative Board of the Institute by the recommendation of the head of the departments according to the provisions of Dokuz Eylül University Exemption and Adaptation Directives.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students must attend classes, practices and examinations. In order for students to qualify for midterms they should attend 70% of the theoretical classes and 80% of the application/lab classes. Students attendance is followed by their Instructor. For almost all required and elective courses there are two written examinations: One midterm examination (given during each semester and dates of which are announced by the Department in the first month of the semester) and one final exam. The instructor announces the weekly course content, the course book and how students will be evaluated and the dates of the exams to the students and the Institute at the beginning of the semester. The instructor evaluated the students depending on their midterm and final grades, attendance to the class, their additional work such as projects, presentations and assignments which were presented at the beginning of the semester.
A make up exam is offered for graduate classes. Upon the approval of the Institute Board students can take the exam from the lessons that they have already passed in order to increase their GPA.
To be able to pass a lesson a graduate student must have minimum CB.
See for the DEU Graduate School Regulations for more information.

Graduation Requirements

The programme consists of a minimum of seven courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, one seminar course, and thesis, with a minimum of 21 local credits. The total ECTS credits of the programme is 120 ECTS. Graduation requirements in detail are explained in the section Qualification Requirements and Regulations.
