Department of Preschool Education, affiliated with Dokuz Eylül University Buca Faculty of Education, was established in 1998 to train preschool teachers. A formal education program has been implemented in our department since its establishment. In addition to the 4-year undergraduate education, graduate education, which was opened in 2002 under the Institute of Educational Sciences, is also continuing. The language of instruction in undergraduate and graduate Preschool Education programs is Turkish.
The Department of Preschool Education, with its 4-year undergraduate program based on contemporary approaches to teacher training; It aims to train qualified teachers who are aware of contemporary measurement-evaluation approaches, who can organize teaching activities in line with technological developments, who can use different teaching methods and strategies in teaching processes, and who can follow the studies in their field. Within the framework of this purpose, the department program includes courses to ensure the professional development of students as well as field knowledge and general culture. In addition to strengthening students’ professional knowledge and experience, our department also attaches importance to directing students to sports, arts, communication and cultural activities that support their personal development and improve their creativity and social relations. Since 2010, the BOLOGNA Process (European Higher Education Area harmonization studies) has started, which allows citizens of countries within the European Higher Education Area to easily move around Europe in order to receive higher education or work.
There are 7 faculty members working in our department, including 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Doctoral Lecturers and 1 Research Assistant. Each year, an average of 70 students enroll in our Department, which accepts students with the verbal score type in the AYT exam. Our graduates of the Department work as Preschool Teachers in Public and Private Educational Institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.
